Zoiper is the softphone we recommend for IPCallBD: free, available on Android, iPhone, Windows, and Mac, and reliable on Bangladeshi mobile networks. Once it is set up, your phone or laptop becomes an extension of your office number, you make and receive calls on the 096 business number from anywhere. This guide walks through the setup and the handful of settings that prevent the usual problems.
Before you start
You need three things from IPCallBD, which we send on WhatsApp when your extension is created:
- Username: usually your extension number, e.g.
102 - Password: the SIP password for that extension
- Domain / server: the address of your PBX
You also need an internet connection. Wi-Fi, 4G, or broadband all work; about 100 Kbps per call is enough.
Step 1: Install Zoiper
- Android: open the Play Store and search “Zoiper”. Install Zoiper5 (the free version is fine).
- iPhone: open the App Store and search “Zoiper”. Install Zoiper5.
- Windows / Mac: download Zoiper5 from zoiper.com and run the installer. Choose the free edition when asked.
Open the app and allow microphone access when prompted. On mobile, also allow notifications, that is how incoming calls reach you when the app is in the background.
Step 2: Add your IPCallBD account
- Tap Settings (the gear) → Accounts → Add account (the + sign).
- Choose “I already have an account” / manual configuration if asked.
- Enter your username, password, and domain exactly as we sent them. No spaces.
- Leave the account type as SIP.
- Tap Register / Save.
Within a few seconds the account should show a green tick or the word “Registered”. That means your phone is now connected to the PBX as extension 102.
If it shows red or “Registration failed”, see the troubleshooting section below, it is almost always a typo in the password or domain.
Step 3: Make a test call
Dial another extension in your office first, for example 101, and check you can both hear each other. Then call a mobile number. The person you call will see your business number as the caller ID, not your personal mobile.
Next, ask a colleague to call the business number and choose your IVR option. Your phone should ring inside Zoiper. If you have call recording on, the call will appear in the portal within a minute.
Step 4: Fix the settings that cause problems
These four settings solve most support calls we get.
Audio: one-way or choppy
In Settings → Audio (or Codecs), move G.711 µ-law (PCMU) and G.711 A-law (PCMA) to the top of the list, and enable G.729 if available. Disable video codecs. On a weak 4G connection, G.729 uses far less data.
Registration keeps dropping on mobile
In Settings → Connectivity (Android) or the account’s Network settings, enable “Run in background” / “Keep alive” and make sure the app is excluded from battery optimisation (Android: Settings → Apps → Zoiper → Battery → Unrestricted). Many Android phones kill background apps aggressively, which stops incoming calls arriving.
No incoming calls when the screen is locked (iPhone)
Allow notifications for Zoiper and enable “Push notifications” in the account settings if offered. Keep the app installed and logged in; you don’t need to keep it open.
Echo or very loud audio
Use a headset or earphones with a mic. Phone speakerphone mode causes echo on the other side.
Step 5: Set your availability
If you don’t want calls outside working hours, either log out of the account in Zoiper (Settings → Accounts → toggle off) or ask us to set an after-hours greeting on the IVR so callers hear your opening times. Don’t just let it ring, a caller who hears nothing assumes you are closed for good. Our IVR setup guide has an after-hours script.
Using a desk IP phone instead
If you prefer a handset on the desk, any SIP IP phone works; Yealink, Grandstream, and Fanvil are common in Bangladesh. The settings are the same three values (username, password, domain), entered in the phone’s web interface under Account. We can walk you through it, or pre-configure phones if you buy them through us.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Registration failed” | Typo in password or domain | Re-enter from the WhatsApp message; copy-paste |
| “Registered” but calls fail | Account out of balance | Recharge in the portal |
| Caller hears nothing | Codec or firewall | Set PCMU/PCMA first; try mobile data instead of office Wi-Fi |
| Incoming calls missed | Battery optimisation killed the app | Exclude Zoiper from battery optimisation |
| Call drops after 30 seconds | NAT / keep-alive | Enable keep-alive; ask us to check the PBX side |
| Calls work on Wi-Fi, not on 4G | Mobile carrier blocking a port | Switch transport to TCP or TLS in the account settings; we can advise |
If a problem persists, message us on WhatsApp with a screenshot of the account screen (hide the password) and we will check the PBX logs.
FAQ
Is Zoiper free?
Yes. The free edition of Zoiper5 has everything needed for IPCallBD, calls, transfer, hold, contacts. The paid version adds extras like video and some codecs, which most users don’t need.
Can I use the same extension on my phone and laptop?
Yes, each extension can register on more than one device. Both will ring; answer on whichever is convenient.
Does Zoiper use a lot of mobile data?
A call uses roughly 0.5–1 MB per minute with G.711, less with G.729. Idle, it uses almost nothing.
Can I use WhatsApp calls instead?
WhatsApp calls are between WhatsApp users only and don’t use your business number. Zoiper makes real phone calls to any number in Bangladesh, showing your 096 number as caller ID.
